2 Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come."
What a wonderful and powerful reminder that God has changed our outer garments stained with sin and wickedness, and clothed us with garments of white robes. As we begin the new year, I wonder will we live as Christians who are truly "new" or will we continue to live as those consumed by the things of this world?
Paul reminds us that our body is death and if our my is set on the flesh it is death, but God sent Jesus to take our punishment so that we could reap the benefit of becoming new. What is striking here is the Greek meaning of the word "new." It carries the connotation of being new in freshness.
Before God's spirit changes us and turns us toward Himself in Christ we have a stench about us. Have you ever experienced the smell of roadkill long expired but continuing to cook in the heat of the day? It is almost rank. Have you experienced the smell of someone who "lost their lunch?" Think of the worst smell you have ever had to contend with. Now imagine that smell multiplied by millions. That is what our sin smells like to a Holy God. That is what we smell like before Christ.
Consider the severity of this one verse. If you are in Christ, you no longer have a rank smell in the nostrils of God. Because of the righteousness of Christ, God smells not your sin but the sweet aroma of Christ who was crushed for our disobedience. Being in Christ is not putting perfume on a corpse, it is the act of God to bring back to life that which is dead and adorn it with a beautiful fragrance that is acceptable to a Holy God.
This year forget resolutions, become new by submitting all to Christ!

Well, it is that time and season again. We are in December, we are running here and there with fervency in order that we might get our shopping done. What always surprises me is that this time of year most of us look forward to rest and relaxation; however, that is generally the last thing we actually do. There are holiday parties, family visits, shopping, baking, and the kids... oh my how can we forget the kids.
God created the world good in fact after he brought the woman to the man and instituted marriage. He declared it very good but Adam and Eve chose to disobey God and by extension we disobey God. God calls this sin, and because of our sin we are cut off from God.
Isaiah 59:2 says "but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear." It’s why we experience pain, it’s why we experience suffering, it’s why it hurts so bad when our loved ones die and why one day we will all die.
The wages of sin is death. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission or forgiveness of sin. You have so many sins, I have so many sins, and our willful sin separates us from a holy God, a God so holy He must punish sin. Our death, or His.
But thanks be to God because even though we chose hopelessness, even though we chose chaos, even though we chose death and even though we chose to cut ourselves off from God, God said you know what, I’m going to fix it, you can’t do it so quit trying!
God says in spite of you and in spite of your rebellion I’m going to make it better, I’m going to give you an out, I’m going to give you a get out of eternal prison free card, but it is not a license to do whatever you wish. I’m going to come down to you and I’m going to be born as a human just like you from the miraculous virgin birth of Mary.
I’m going to experience hunger pains and thirst, I’m going to experience trials and temptations and sufferings I’m going to experience the loss of loved ones. I’m going to cry with you, I’m going to cry for you, and you know what in the person of Jesus Christ I’m going to die for you so that I can redeem you and return you back to the Father in heaven.
That is what the Gospel was, is and will always represent. You don’t deserve it, I don’t deserve it, even though the wages of sin is death, the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. This is the greatest gift given or will ever be given. Christ died for you and me. Let us remember that during this season.

"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord"
What is Paul telling us here? Before this Paul speaks about the resurrection and how we, as perishing mortal beings, must put on the imperishable and immortality. But the only way to do this is to be in Christ. Not only that, we have to be secured in our belief that He was indeed resurrected from the dead. This is why Paul says to be steadfast and immovable. When you are steadfast, you continue in that way wholeheartedly because you are assured in your position.
In this case the resurrection of the Savior Jesus. Furthermore, you have to be immovable. Think of Mt. Jefferson. Mt. Jefferson is immovable no matter what happens. Paul says, you and I must be immovable in our faith in Christ life, death, but especially His resurrection. If there is not resurrection from the dead our faith is in vain. Paul says, "Oh there was a resurrection indeed, and you fellow brother or sister, must be immovable in this!"
Then he goes on to say, that no matter what you do, if it is dedicated to the LORD and for His glory than it is not in vain. Moms, this means down to the very diapers you change, to everything you do in the home. In our society this is frowned upon, but the God of the universe holds the basics of being a mom in the highest regard and if it is upon to the LORD, Paul says it is not in vain.
Dads, this means that everything you do day in and day out to provide, to grow you family, and to lead and love (even when it is difficult or hurts) is not in vain when it is in the LORD. Keep on keeping on for the prize at the end, finish the race and keep the faith.
"For I am sure that He who began a good work in you will bring it about to completion on the day or Christ!" ~Philippians 1:6~

Pastor Josh's Devotional Box - Night Light
As I gathered with all the kids September 25th for "SYATP" I realized that the sole purpose of prayer was to seek God and the movement of His spirit upon the people in this world. It made me think about growing up and how most of us would ask our parents for a night light when it was bed time. Why did we want the night light? Well to keep the darkness and all the evil that was in it at bay, of course. That light would make us feel secure, safe, and comfortable enough to sleep even though there was darkness all around.
Do you know what has changed in the last 3 decades? Nothing! The darkness is still everywhere and this world is full of evil. But let me tell you a secret. Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12) We are reminded in Scripture that Jesus is the light of the world. Again, what was the purpose of that night light? To dispel the darkness. You and I can dispel the darkness we need only follow the light of this world, we need to follow Jesus closely. Dear Christian, pray the darkness away, seek to sine the light of Christ in this dark world. Spread the Gospel, serve your King.

Family Life has a wonderful tool out called Passport to Purity or P2P. This topic is so important for us to have with our kids as the world is telling them everything about sexuality that contradicts God's good design. Below is a video that explains what P2P is. I have linked to the website here so you can get more information.
I have done this with my two older boys and plan to do it again soon and I cannot tell you how amazing it went. Perhaps slightly awkward at first but soon we all settled into it and had a great time learning about God's design.
Please take some time to read various articles found here from focus on the family. There are very helpful and age appropriate tips and discussions points on various things they need to know. If we do not train them in God's way, the world will teach them Satan's way.

Ephesians 5:15-17 15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil. 17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Before these few verses Paul tells us to be imitators of God, and to walk in Love just as Jesus Christ did through His fragrant offering to the Lord upon the Cross. Paul also says to put off the old self, all impurity, immorality, and coarse jesting (joking talk); in fact, these types of things should not even be mentioned among us. Furthermore, Paul says we should expose the evil by shinning the light of Christ.
Then we get to verses 15-17. As a result of what Paul said, you must be careful how you walk. What does it mean to walk as unwise men? Unwise men do not walk in the light, they seek to live in the dark, engaging in various impurities or immoralities. This can be gossip, slander, demeaning attitudes toward another and far worse.
Wise men seek out the light and willfully walk in it so that they can expose the evil deeds of others to the light of Jesus Christ. Wise men do not engage in gossip, slander, coarse joking, immorality, impurity, or complaining. But notice what Paul then says in verse 16-17. We are to make the most of our time because the days are evil, and we are not to be foolish but understand what the will of God is.
How can we make the most of our time, not be foolish and understand the will of God? 1) We have to treat everyday as the only day. We have to seek out ways to share Christ with a lost and dying world. 2) We have understand that scripture says "the fool has said there is no God" and so we need to embrace God in every way possible. We need to pray, we need to study His word because this is the only way we an understand what the will of God is.
Dear Christian seek to walk in the light of Christ, make the most of your time by sharing Jesus everywhere you go, and understand God's will by praying to Him and studying His word.

C.A.R.E Family Fun Night - Raising money for military Bible Sticks Kathy Dowdy hosted a family fun night that saw many of our families enjoy some fellowship, food, and fun.
#MBCKidsCamp 2019 - This was a phenomenal week. We had 33 kids come to camp and 47% of them were non-churched community kids. Why we pray and we even learned the Lord's prayer in ASL.
We need to shout out to my volunteers. Their dedication and perseverance was an amazing testament to their service to their King. They helped make Kids Camp successful. For that we are eternally grateful.

How God testifies to us of His eternal glory and the truthfulness of His eternal word by way of the spirit is a difficult thing to explain in human terms. In order to see the glory of the Lord in His revealed word we must read it and be alive. However, by our very nature we are dead "for the mind set on the flesh is death but the mind that is set on the spirit is life;" therefore, we must be illumined by the spirit of truth to see the truthfulness of God in His word. This is what effects our understanding of His word, His glory, His Christ, and the eternal life provided by the atoning death of Jesus. You must open your Bible.
But how are we to see this walking in darkness and how are we to see this if our mind, is by its very carnal nature focused on the flesh? The light of God must break in by way of Christ but its not as if we willingly flip the metaphorical switch and then accept the things of God. No, but rather we are dead in darkness and the spirit, by the LORD’s sovereign will breaks in upon our minds with His light and opens us up to the things of God. Open your bible
It’s as if our life (in the very real sense, our physical being) is asleep in the dark room of carnality and flesh. We do not reach for the switch, because “the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” (Romans 8:7-8) Rather the spirit of God breaks down the door, flips on the light switch, pulls back the curtains and the radiant light of His manifested glory pours into the darkness of our life through His word. Open your Bible.
It removes the scales from our eyes, penetrates our heart and illuminates our mind and in all of its beauty calls us to the light making the dark seem utterly repulsive and decadent. Let the light of God shine in your life today. Pray that His spirit would illuminate your mind and soul then hear from God through His Holy word. Child of the King, open your Bible!

Discipleship in the Home
This can involve a lesson, a book or a book of the Bible dependent on the appropriateness of age, I suggest the following resources:
We used this website for a long time. You can use the material to build a lesson in home or simply print and read. There are activities, games, and crafts.
This is a fantastic book as the cover says: “Ancient truths ever new” and “Deep truths simply told” reads on the back, I could not agree more. This book covers the theology of God, people, sin, promise and law, Christ and so much more. It is very engaging and offers many scripture references that each child, and adult can take turns reading.
Pre-teens and teens
Crossway has a wide selection of devotional studies that you can do with your older kids. I suggest a 12-week devotional as there is one for each book of the Bible. My 15 year old and I do this together every two weeks. You can find them here.
Book of the Bible With older kids reading through a book of the Bible is an acceptable appraoch to in home discipleship. I would reccomend starting with a narrative or a New Testament Gospel. This is a great way to introduce your child to spiritual growth.
Midway also has resources we can offer you. Right Now Media is a great tool that can help you bridge the Sunday to Monday gap.
